1st Newtown Scout Group has its own jubilee scout hall located near the police station and opposite the playing fields of Ladywell Green Primary School along Park Lane, Newtown.
Our scout hall was opened on the 6th October 1978 by Col. J L Corbett-Winder, the then Lord Liutenant of Powys and president of the Montgomeryshire Boy Scouts Association.
We operate under the rules and guidelines set out by The Scout Association, and comprise of a Beaver Scout Colony, a Cub Scout Pack, and a Scout Troop who meet weekly during school term dates.
The Dre' Team Explorer Unit are also based at the scout hall, and meet weekly throughout the year.
Scouting is open to boys and girls, so please take the time to look through our web site pages, and do not hesitate to contact our leaders if your child has an interest in joining the scouts, or you just want to find out more about us.
The scout hall is in the process of being redecorated and improved. As a charity group, we are reliant on help from parents, donations and grant funding to help improve the hall and to provide the equipment used by the youth members of 1st Newtown Scout Group and the Dre' Team Explorers.
We are always grateful for all help that is offered, as the scout group can only continue to operate withe the continuing help of our unpaid volunteers; and are currently trying to establish a sub committee of active fundraisers to help us secure the funding we need to carry out the urgent repairs and necessary improvements to the scout hall to ensure that it is a comfortable venue that our youth members can enjoy and be proud of all year round.
If you feel that you can help to plan and take part in fund raising activities, have a talent for making grant applications, or are just willing to roll your sleeves up and help with the refurbishments, please contact our Group Scout Leader, Bill Jones on gsl@newtownscouts.org.uk or just send us a message via our contacts page on this website.
