We normally meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 pm at Newtown Jubilee Scout Hall, but at the moment we don't have enough young people interesting in joining our Explorer Unit for us to run regular meetings. We are hoping that this situation will change in the near future now that the Covid pandemic is behind us.
The Explorer Units for 14 to 18 year youth members are run at a District/Area level. Dre' Team Explorer Scout Unit is one of the Montgomeryshire Explorer Scout Units, being based at Newtown Robert Owen Scout Group's Jubilee Scout Hall in Newtown.
Dre' Team Explorers go on monthly weekend activities, camps and hikes throughout the year, both during school term times and during the school holidays. Many of our Explorers also help as Young Leaders with Beaver, Cubs and Scout meetings to help to achieve their scouting awards and to benefit from the rewards, confidence and experience that being a Young Leader offers.
Our Explorer Unit also organises a 7 to 10 day Summer Expedition each year. Past expeditions have enabled our Explorers to go hiking and stay in mountain hostels in Slovenia, hiking and camping along the Ring of Kerry in the south of Ireland, and sailing on the Norfolk Broads.
Our activities programme enables our Explorer Scouts to gain Duke of Edinburgh awards at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels; the Chief Scout's Platinum and Diamond Awards; and the coveted Queen's Scout Award.
Scouts wishing to move up from Newtown Robert Owen and 1st Abermule Scout groups normally join Dre' Team Explorers at Newtown, but you don't have to have been a scout previously to join Dre' Team Explorers.
As Montgomeryshire Explorers is run at a District/Area level, Explorer Scouts registered with Dre' Team Explorers can also attend meetings and events organised by the other Explorer units within Montgomeryshire:

- Dyfi Valley ESU - (Machynlleth)
